Early morning, on the 16th of May, cyclone Tautke gripped Goa within its claws, only to leave behind a trail of destruction. The state had already been facing the onslaught of the pandemic and the disruption of regular means of income due to lockdown, and the people were woefully unprepared for the additional burden thrown at them by the cyclone. Mercifully, many lives were spared and prompt action by the government safeguarded many more. But with the supplies dwindling and the transportation under repair, one of the orphanages, El-Shaddai,connected with Project Neysa was struggling to stay afoot.

Project Neysa believes in quick action and in turn, to spread joy and positivity in these dire circumstances, we held ‘Aashayein’, a series of fundraiser workshops, which was conducted on May 22nd,23rd, and 29th 2021. We aimed to bring about a sense of hope and well-being through these workshops. We were delighted to see that more than 60 people helped us in this noble cause by attending our workshops or simply donating a generous amount. On May 22nd, a semi-classical dance workshop was held by our instructors, Unnathi and Vidisha, where participants were taught graceful yet simple movements, to the melodious beat of “Manwa Laage”. On May 23rd, a contemporary dance workshop was held, where Kuhu and Gautham, our instructors, amazed the audience, by teaching them fluid and flexible movements, to the rhythm of “Falling”. On May 29th, a Bollywood dance workshop was held, where the participants grooved to the fun-filled, energy-packed movements of “Discowale Khisko”, choreographed by Riya and Priyanshi.

We are very grateful to you all, who made the workshop series a success. It enabled Project Neysa to donate a substantial sum of Rs. 17,000 to El-Shaddai. Our pride and joy are the students who benefitted with the essential supplies and remain happy and joyful.
