Aji Lamu

Let’s take a trip to the East, snow-clad mountains, a breath of fresh air, and a strong cultural heritage. The festivities could be year-round, and the most integral part remains folk dance and music.

Aji Lamu involves heavy makeup and costumes, often derived from the wildlife found in that region. The tribe is dependant on sheep, yaks, and other such animals for its livelihood, and has a heavy influence on the dance, as they narrate stories.  It is an embodiment of the Ramayana, in Tibet, it revolves around five main characters. As in most dance forms, it shows the win of good over evil, that is, Nyapa over Nyao. It touches upon heavenly characters and is a dance-drama, telling the story of Lhamu who came to earth and became the queen of Gyeli. It involves extensive attention to detail and is usually performed by the  It is performed during the Losar festival, which is the New Year festival. Most dance forms spread joy and prosperity, and drive away negative spirits.

It creates an electrifying atmosphere and is known for its rampant dance moves and many wait eagerly each year, to get a rendezvous with the culture and traditions, and vibrancy in the little jewel of North-East.
